Error Code: PSA 2000-0152 for Dell Inspiron 17 laptop
Hi - I just got this error code today
- yesterday my DVD drive was working fine until I tried to burn a DVD. Now I cannot read any disc. My problem is similar to

Model: Inspiron N7010
Drive: HT-DT-ST DVD +-RW GT32N
Out of warranty.

In Windows Explorer, when I click on the DVD drive, I get the prompt to insert a disc but no disc can be read.
I've reseated the drive but no disc can be read.
I've updated the BIOS but no disc can be read.

Elijah,
I see the drive in Windows Explorer - again it asks to insert a disc.
So I have tried many discs which have worked before, but the drive reads none of them.
I ran the Microsoft Fix-It program
- I inserted a disc with photos which the drive read just a few days ago
but the program reported the error that the "media in the drive is not readable"
(which is not true).
Let me know what else I can try.
I would appreciate any additional help.

I tried this but Windows Explorer does not recognize any disc, since no disc can actually fully load where they become viewable.

Hi InspironDell17,
I think your drive has failed, but you should test it to be sure. To test your CD/DVD drive from the utility partition:
1. Reboot your system. When you see the Dell logo, hit F12 to enter the boot menu.
2. Select Boot to utility partition or Diagnostics.
3. Select Test System.
4. Select Custom Test.
5. Use the arrow keys or mouse to select your CD/DVD drive.
6. Insert a CD or DVD.
7. Click Run Tests.
8. Write down any error messages.

I do not see "Boot to utility partition" as a menu choice.
I chose "Diagnostics" and the do not get another chance to make any choices.
The test runs and I get an endless series of beeps with the error message 2000-0147.

My warranty ended in 2012.
My drive is HL-DT ST DVD +RW GT32N.
What other specs do I need to know to buy a suitable replacement drive?
