External Media Bay for Latitude CS
Hi there, I have been given an old Latitude CS laptop running win 98.
I want to make do and mend rather than buying new but to do that I need a CD rom which I don't have.
Can I buy a newer compatible CD rom or do I have to buy a used C series external media bay if so where can I get these from?
Hope any one can help.
Cheers

You need a C-series CD ROM drive and a 10NRN cable. You can find both on eBay.
The media bay is nice but not necessary. Just having the CD ROM drive together with the 10NRN cable is enough.

Cheers didn't realise that I could use an iternal drive but with the cable.
I've read many times that I can use any C series drive is this correct?

Are you saying that you have the external CD drive and the proprietary Dell cable?
Which OS are you looking for? Win98?
Try to find someone with a Dell Windows 2000 or XP CD.

The CSeries Floppy cable that connects to the PARALLEL port will not work with an optical drive.
While it does attach to the optical drive connector its not for Optical Drives.
Only the Media Bay cable is universal in being able to do HDD, Floppy, Optical Drive.
There is a slip on case for the CSERIES to use Floppy or Optical Drive , HDD with a different cable that connects to the IDE port not the parallel port.
The 4169D is the hard drive bay and 10NRN or K2652 is the Media Bay Cable.
Dell Media Bay 1.44MB Floppy Drive C-Series 66942.
You can use any CD that matches the OS of the COA on your system.
