Find the fastest speed for DVD+RW?

I have a Dimension 4700, running XP Pro SP2.  I have some DVD+RW that are "up to 4x compatible" and they work, but I'm planning to buy more, and wonder if the drive can support any faster speeds.  Where can I find that information in my computer?

Hi, NASKinderhook:

Grab Nero Infotool (link in my signature). It will report not only the model of your drive but its capabilities.

I'm guessing that 4x is as fast as that drive will go for DVD RW discs. RW speeds are always a tad slow as compared with write-once speeds.

Thanks very much, Osprey, for Nero's excellent diagnostic tool.

It shows that both read and write speeds are 40X.

The 40x speed applies only to CD-Rs. I'm pretty sure your DVD RW speed will be considerably slower.

Even though the InfoTool says Drive Type is DVD+R/RW DL Recorder and doesn't mention CD-R/RW?

In other words, we're still estimating a lower speed, but the tool won't tell what the range is?

It should show the different disc types your drive will burn, which should include both CD and DVD types. For more specs, try entering the model of your drive into the search field on the main support site (click support above).

Thanks for the suggestion.  I found a driver handbook for the Philips drive.

Looks like you're correct re: maximum write to DVD+RW is 4x:

(I highlighted the relevant part because the chart as I originally cut-and-pasted it was dismantled by the editor automatically.)

Many thanks for your help, Osprey.
