Firmware Installation Problem for Samsung SM-308B HH 8X CDRW/DVD Combo
Hi,
I run Windows 2000 on a Dimension 8100.
I am trying to install the latest Firmware for my CD drive - Samsung SM-308B HH 8X CDRW/DVD Combo. I have downloaded the exe, extracted the relevant files on to a floppy and rebooted according to the installation instructions, with the floppy present in the drive. The installation instructions (on

During the reboot process, the DOS screen prompts me to "Enter the name of the command controller (e.g. C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM)", and displays the command prompt "A>". At that point, nothing seems to work. I've tried a "dir" command, and nothing is diaplyed. I went back into windows to look at the contents of the floppy and saw that it does indeed contain a file named "COMMAND.COM". However, typing COMMAND.COM also doesn't help - DOS simply keeps repeating the same prompt. At the top of the screen it reads "Starting Windows 98" - this may have something to do with it?
Either way, I am attempting to install this firmware in the hope that it will enable iTunes to communicate correctly with my CD drive, which it has failed to do so far although in other respects I have had no problems with the CD drive.
Any advice on how to get through this impasse would be very gratefully received.
Regards

Dear Stephen,
Thanks for the suggestions. But I guess you must be running a different system. I tried all of the above, with the same results as before. Whatever I type into DOS, it responds with the same useless message. Time to invest in a Mac I fear. (My iTunes software is brand new.)
