HARD DRIVE NOT 320GB!

Hi all, i just got an inspiron 530 and the hard drive shows as 288gb, is this the usual size they put in for 320gb?Also every time i turn on an extra gb seems to have been used up,it has gone from 253gb to 244 in 4 days and i aint put much onto the machine, maybe only half a gig!

I have a Samsung and a Seagate drive in a RAID 1 in my Inspiron 530s. Both are 320GB drives and they both show 298GB.

You might want to check your system restore settings and see if that is causing the used space.

Many thanks,Dev Mgr,that accounts for the hard drive sizing.

320GB drive = 320,000,000,000 bytes.

1 Kilobyte = 1024 bytes
1 Megabyte = 1024 Kilobytes
1 Gigabyte = 1024 Megabytes

So 1 Gigabyte = 1024x1024x1024 bytes = 1073741824 bytes.

As harddrive sizes are in billions of bytes, 320,000,000,000 / 1073741824 = 298.02 GB.

Then Dell has the recovery partition for a quick restore of the OS to the factory fresh OS image.

I couldn't tell you what data you put on your harddrive to lose 9GB in 4 days.
