HL-DT-ST GWA 4164B

Got my XPS 600 last Friday and this is the DVD-RW that is in it. Already have had a few issues with it not reading CD-R's. When I ordered the system (refurb) the invoice and the packing slip said it has a Philips dvd-rw. Looking at the Phillips dvd-rw burners, the model numbers are different. I  don't think Phillips manufactures the 4146B. have read numerous post about this cd-rw and all the problems with it. I guess a call to tech support is in order to find out if I can get a replacement drive.

aviator686,

Go ahead and flash that drive. Does it make a difference?

Flashed the drive per XPS support and still getting instances where it won't read blank CD-R media.

ChrisM is a nice guy and he means well, but, as a former owner of this infamous burner, here's my advice: forget the flashing and get yourself another drive, that one is a dud. This forum is full of postings from people who had it and had to replace it, just do a search.

Yeah, I've been doing that. Looking at the Plextor models. Thanks.
