The 1525 is a first-gen (SATA 150 system);  all second- and third-gen SATA are backward compatible.  Yes, the drive will work.

Hi,

Welcome to the Community.

The Inspiron 1525 uses SATA hard drives. The hard drive capacities are as follows:

  • 80 GB 5400 RPM
  • 120 GB 5400 RPM
  • 120 GB 7200 RPM
  • 160 GB 5400 RPM
  • 160 GB 7200 RPM

So the maximum you can use is 160GB 7200 rpm.

SATA-600 is backwards compatible with SATA-150 and SATA-300. It's merely the transfer speed. The connectors are all the same but the machine will be able to reduce the speed to the maximum your storage controller can handle.

Please reply with anymore queries.

Thanks and Regards
