How do I Update the Firmware for my CD/DVD Drive?
Hello, I hope you are well.
I have a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop and wanted to update the firmware for my TS-L632H slim 8xDVD+/RW drive. I went to http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WLH&catid=-1&dateid=-1&impid=-1&osl=EN&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=VOS_N_1500&hidos=W732&hidlang=EN&TabIndex= and downloaded the firmware for the drive (version DW30, A09). I downloaded it fine, installed it, and now see a program called TSDNWIN Flash download for Windows.
My drive shows up, but it's asking for a "F/W File," which it lists as "Not Opened." I believe I'm supposed to select a .bin file, but have no idea where I'm supposed to get that. If I hit the "Download" button, I get the message "File Not Opened!!"
What am I supposed to do? Ever since downloading this, my drive has not worked at all. It doesn't read CDs or DVDs and I can't get it to burn anything whatsoever.
Thanks,
Victor

This might be useful to anyone with the same problem :
TSST_TS-L632H-SLIM-8X-DVD---_A09_R250068.exe is also an archive file.
1°) So, what you have to do, before lauching it as an .exe, is unzip it with your favorite program (I used 7z.exe)
In one of the subdir, there is the .BIN
2°) Only then you launch TSST_TS-L632H-SLIM-8X-DVD---_A09_R250068.exe and, when asked, you choose this .BIN
And there you are :it's done.

Hi, VicVicVic:
It sounds like the firmware flash may have gone bad. Please try downloading the update utility again and run it again. Make sure you are following the installation instructions listed on the download page. If the drive still does not work, try running the Dell diagnostics.
Let me know what happens. Dell may replace the drive is the firmware update was the cause of the failure.

Hello,
Is this the process that you used to install the firmware update?
Hard Drive Installation (via WinZip) with Setup.exe File for TSST_TS-L632H-SLIM-8X-DVD---_A09_R250068.EXE
Download
1.Click Download Now, to download the file.
2.When the File Download window appears, click Save (Windows XP
users will click Save) this program to disk and click OK. The Save In:
window appears.
3.From the Save In: field, click the down arrow then click to
select Desktop and click Save. The file will download to your desktop.
4.If the Download Complete window appears, click Close. The file
icon appears on your desktop.
Install
1.Double-click the new icon on the desktop labeled TSST_TS-L632H-SLIM-8X-DVD---_A09_R250068.EXE.
2.The Self-Extracting window appears and prompts you to extract or
unzip to C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R250068. Write down this path so the executable (I.e.
Setup.exe) file can be found later.
3.The Self-Extractor window appears.
4.Click OK.
5.After completing the file extraction, if the Self-Extractor
window is still open, close it.
6.Click the Start button and then click Run.
7.Type C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R250068 in the Open textbox and then click OK.
8.Follow the on-screen installation instructions.

Hi all,
I'm having the same problem with the TSDNWIN.exe driver installer as reported by vicvicvic back in 2009. The program has been unzipped, along with the .bin file. It shoud be playing the role of a typical setup.exe installer. If I click on its search button, it locates the .bin file correctly.. But then when I click on the next step, it comes up with a caution dialog window, not fully legible, and the program hangs and will not respond to my attempts to acknowledge the caution. I have to go into the task manager to terminate the program. I'm on a Vostro 430 with32-bit Windows 7, trying to update my CD/DVD+-rw driver, TS-H653G. Luckily I can stil use the hardware to some extent. with the old driver.

Hi FBV,
This is firmware, not a driver, that you're trying to install. Correct? Are you trying to install this firmware update? If so, did you follow the instructions on that page?

I know this is an old post, but I had the same problem so thought it might be helpful to other people googling it.
The OK button on the Caution window is hidden, but you can still close it with ALT+F4. This wont close the whole program, just the caution message.

inside the zip file you can find a bin file and one exe file. extract all the files in the zip file. Run the exe file by right click run as administrator. Click folder button and choose the bin file and choose flash or start or something that's there. Make sure you remove the dvd and don shutdown the pc during the flash
