How hot gets your m1710 harddrive?

Hey, I'm pretty new with computers  , so this may be a stupid question ,but with ambient temperatures of 25C, my HD gets rather hot. Just surfing it gets to about 50 C, so I'm a bit worried, cause life expectency of HD's shortens big time with high temperatures.   I know the processor is nearby and is probably giving the heat to the HD, the fans are working. nVidea is about 60-70 C. I don't keep the battery in, when I'm not using it. So my question: how hot gets your HD?     T2600/80GB fujitsu 5400rpm/ 2GB ddr2 667Mhz/ go 7900 gs

Well it doesn't get that hot you know. I can easily put my hand on top of the harddisk location and on the bottom of the laptop. Should be around 40°C inside. They can stand some heat. Don't worry.

Thanks for your reply. Finally somebody did. In the meantime, I contacted Dell support by telephone. Next day I got a 'new', this is a revized, motherboard, and new fans. They are a lot more active than before. The machine still gets hot, on the right side, but less than before. The HD now peaks around 43 C, but of then again the hot summer temperatures are finnished. The dell tech also installed I8FfanGUI, which is in beta for dell xps, but keeps an eye on several internal temperatures, and you can force the fans to blow. So allthough it seems fixed, I'm not that happy that the whole motherboard had to be replaced, and that the machine itself doesn't regulate the temperature better. Maybe a new bios update can make it better.

Ricky, 50 deg. C is about 120 deg. F; not very hot by electronics standards. Most HDDs can tolerate temps to 140 degrees, but cooler is better. The temps you describe are well within specs.
