How long should CHKDSK take? Hours???

Hello.

I'm running CHKDSK from the recovery console.  I've been getting a CRC (Cycle Redundancy Check) error lately.  When I run CHKDSK, it takes forever.  It took 30 minutes to get to 62% completed.  I left for an hour and when I came back it was stuck on 66%.  Is there something wrong or can it take this long?

Any help is appreciated.  Please send a reply to me by email as well because I'm new here and might have trouble getting back quickly.

Thank you!

Brian

Sure sounds like your hdd is dying.  I would pull it out, reseat it firmly into the notebook, then run chkdsk again.  If it is still slow, back up your important data, files, email, etc.

if you do a full surface scan on the drive, it can take that long.

I previously had 100000+ files on my drive and chkdsk still took less than 5 minutes to do a normal scan.
