How to Change E: Drive Back to C: Drive
Just did a CLEAN original install of windows XP Pro on an Inspirion 8200. (new Hitachi 7200 60 gig drive)
In loading the software the drive somehow became named the E: drive instead of the C: drive.(I had a usb drive attached i think).
I cant change the drive letter back to C: using Computer> Manage> Disk Drives. This basic NTFS partition now seems to be my boot.
Is there any way I can change it back to be the c: drive like usual?
I tried re-installing windows from the beginning under a clean -not repair -mode.
The Disk Manager wont let me change the drive letter OR format the drive again.
Can anyone help get me back to a c: drive designation?

during setup I would delete then recreate your partition(s) before formatting.

Thanks for the advice.
I tried to do a fresh install again - and it kept the drive as the e:drive insted of the C: drive I wanted to create. Do I physically pull out my hard drive and my DVD drive and then boot up and shut down - and then put the drive back in again. Wont it show up again as the formatted E: drive. Windows does nopt let me format the e:drive because it thinks it is my boot drive.
Im half way there - can anyone help? Thanks.

you need to boot from the xp cd and do all partitioning and formating from within the xp setup.
