How to obtain a Custom Symantec Recovery Disk For Ghost or Livestate

Question

I know that there are alot of people that use Ghost and Livestate or other Symantec backup products that have Raid turned on in the Bios and have been unable to use the Recovery Disk because the needed drivers are not there.     Symantec will FREE of charge create a custom Recovery Disk for you to download. Here is the LINK to the web page giving all of the information. I just had them create on for me that included the Raid drivers and the Nic drivers for my XPS 410. I sent the request in on Sunday and had an email on Monday morning that it was ready for me to download. I sent them the files that I downloaded from the Dell download page and the system .NFO file I created per their instructions, it was that easy. I hope this helps some people from pulling out their hair. David

I also have an XPS 410.   I was wondering where at the Dell site you downloaded the files you mentioned and just what files you downloaded and sent to Symantec.   I have Ghost 10, and am very interested in getting this DVD even though I have backed up the data via Ghost to an external drive.   I appreciate any information you can pass along that would help me concerning this.   Thanks!

Wow, I spent hours on the phone with Dell trying to recover my system after I tried to go back to a checkpoint. EVERYONE who is runnning RAID and wants go use Norton HAS to get the correct drivers or they will see the BSOD when the boot up after selecting the checkpoint to recover to. That is why I switched to Acronis TrueImage.  It handles my RAID0 array beautifully, creates custom boot CDs with RAID, USB and network drivers, and even has a little Partition Magic action going letting you create a backup partition if you only have one drive.  It was worth the $50.

Thanks for sharing this information. I am considering  the purchase of an XPS 410 with data safe option on two 750GB drives. PC MAg articel back in October stted that DSell utilizes Norton Ghost as a part of this setup. Symantec website states today that Norton Ghost is not compatible with Vista. Do you know if Dell is still utilizing Ghost as a part of the application given that it is not compatible with Vista?

Of course, you can only create the requested .NFO file if you can boot into

your system!:smileymad:

Can't do that if all you get is the BSOD that results from attempting to do a

restore without knowing about this problem! Grrrrr.
