Installation of Windows Server 2003 does not recognize the Serial ATA hard disk
I have to install a Windows Server 2003 to a new Dimension 8400. It has an WDC WD1600JD-75HBB0 harddisk on a Intel 82801FB/FBM Ultra ATA Storage Controller & Intel 82801FR SATA AHCI Controller, which was standard from DELL.
When I boot with the installation DVD of Windows Server 2003 the installation program says, that an IDE harddisk was *not* found and the installation aborts. Before I come to this screen I have the possibility to insert a floppy disk with drivers for SCSI controllers or others. I have a floppy disk drive, but no device driver disk with the driver for my serial ata harddisk controller. Where can I find the right driver to put on an empty floppy disk ??? Please help.
Kind regards, Juerg, Switzerland

Thanks. I did not know that the included dell driver cd-rom has an extract function to create floppy disks. That helped. With this floppy disk it was possible to successfully install windows server 2003 on dimension 8400.
By the way: I have no RAID controller. There are no device drivers for AHCI controllers on the Intel website, only for RAID.

Thanks for the update. I going to be re-loading Windows XP on my XPS gen 2. Before doing that I may just try the Windows 2003 Server to verify it works like you said. Some day I may put that on when I retire it as my everyday Workstation. I running RAID 1 on it so be intrested to see if it will work on Windows 2003 Server.
