NEC ND-3520A DVD/RW

Trying to install the NEC ND-3520A from Newegg into my dimension 4500. The unit came OEM-no documentation. When I removed the Samsung burner and installed the NEC DVD burner all the other drives are unrecognized. In addition to the Samsung burner I have a Liteon DVD ROM installed in the top bay with a Iomega zip 100. Those drives are the lost ones referred to when I installed the NEC. As soon as I replaced the Samsung back in all was well again. The NEC does not even have a "driver or firmware update". I sure have been striking out. Any thoughts or experiences. Thanks.

Hi Brigadoon,

Double check your jumper settings, Dell uses the Cable Select jumper feature, set the jumper on the NEC to CS and try again.
Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 4.

Best Regards

Thanks so much Predator, but would you know which of the configurations is cable select on the jumpers. I have no docs and right now the jumper is on the farthest 2 pins on the right . There are 2 more sets of pins to the left that are not jumped. Thanks again, brigadoon

Hi Brigadoon,

I found a very nice Full review of this drive here:

http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Specific.aspx?ArticleId=12314

If you scroll down, you should find the information on the next diagram picture after the back view of the drive; CSEL (Cable Select) is on the left # (1); Slave is in the middle # (2); Master is on the right # (3)

Best Regards
