Need help buying 1TB Internal Hard Drive and enclosure using USB External Hard Drive for Backup on Dell 4600 & Dell 3000

Need help buying 1TB Internal Hard Drive and enclosure using USB External Hard Drive for Backup on Dell 4600 & Dell 3000.

Will this work?

I think I have to buy 1TB internal hard drive

7200 rpm rotation speed

Sata or IDE doesn't matter if I connect by USB right?

32mb cache buffer size

I have Windows XP on both.

4600 has 1.5GB Ram

Seagate ST3500630AS (500 GB) and ST380011A (80 GB)

3000 has 1.25GB Ram

80 GB has about 2GB free on it

If I buy internal and enclosure vs external HDD

do I need to find some software to backup with?

The enclosure you buy must match the drive type - most probably SATA, since large capacity EIDE drives are becoming extinct quite rapidly.

I would suggest a WD drive - not Seagate at the moment.
