New Iomega Super Dive
Has anyone had any problems with this drive or software? I see that some people are having problems with the Plextor 708 which I was thinking of getting. CNET also says the new TDK is the same as the Plextor.

Hi Springs,
So far we have seen the Plextor mentioned when using the software which ships with it, Roxio`s Version 6, it has enabled the "hidden parition" on some of Dell`s systems. Here is one quote from one of our Regulars:
Software repartitioned drive
I can't explain how it happened, but it has been reported on this forum several times and always appears to be associated with either the installation of Napster 2 or Easy CD Creator, both Roxio products. Search the forum for other messages, but I seem to recall that Roxio is aware of the problem, but is unwilling to fix it. One solution, if you have Partition Magic, is to rehide the Dell partitions, or delete them and recombine the space into the other partition(s).
Steve
Currently I am working on a new system with the Plextor 708a, I have the drive on the motherboards Primary Channel (Master) and a Sony CD/RW on the Secondary Channel (Master), not tested a DVD burning yet, DVD player works fine and did a quick CD-R burn, so far no issues, but this is not a Dell system.
Best Regards
God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

I just got the Iomega external usb 2.0 Super Drive a few days back and I'm having a multitude of problems with it...Ive had 5 successful burns and 10 coasters. I'm using a new Inspiron 5100 laptop.
Using different media hasnt made a difference (Memorex, BeAll, Imation), nor has different software (Nero 6, Record Now, Hot Burn).
Unless something changes, I'll be returning mine soon. With the constant coasters, I can't afford it.
