No, you need a motherboard with a spare SATA connector, to add an eSATA drive.

That is what I am looking for Shes..so, I can put that enclosure into a USB device, with a machine that has a SATA controller? hmmm?
That is the bottom line, taking an old HD and using it with a newer machine that has Sata devices.
Regards and thanks

Yes, you can, I'm using USB 2.0 IDE powered enclosures to connect my 'spare' IDE hard drives to both a 530 [w/Vista] and 8400 systems [w/XP Pro,] and they work fine.

No, for eSATA you need a SATA drive.
But, you can use a USB 2.0 IDE powered external enclosure similar to this, for an IDE/EIDE/ATA drive.
For the above, the IDE drive's jumpers, should be set to the 'Master' setting.

There should be no need to enter the BIOS.
Install the drive and reboot the system, then system should recognize it and assign a drive letter.
You could Check Disk Management after installing drive to see if the drive is shown, or if you wish to format it.

Bev,
I set the jumper on the enclosure device to master, what do I need to do in the bios to have it recognized?
Can I set it to 2nd or 3rd in line?
