SONY DVD+-RW DW-D56A with PDS7 won't burn anymore

Hello,

I have an Inspiron 9300 with a SONY DVD+-RW DW-D56A drive. I dual boot between XP and Linux. Everything was working fine on both OS.

Recently, I upgraded the firmware of my DVD drive by using the update on Dell's website. The firmware is now PDS7.

Now, the drive will not burn CDs or DVDs in Linux. It seems to be working fine on Windows, but not in Linux.

I'd like to revert the firmware to the original one. Is it possible? Otherwise, do I have any other solution than asking for a replacement drive (since it was perfectly working before the Dell's firmware update)?

Thanks!

hi there

You have a situation on hand. Firstly, Dell does not support Linux. Even if the problem started occuring after the firmware update, Dell can prove that the drive works fine in Windows XP. Dell would be able to help you in this regard. You can try doing a system restore to a previous date to revert to the original configuration.
