Second SATA HDD in GX520
Hi
I wanted to add a second HDD to my GX 520.
I currently have 40Gb SATA HDD (came as standard with machine)
I have never used STAT before - but it appears I have a spare bay (fitted with blue cage) belwo the original HDD.
I have seen a 500GB SATA HDD for sale on eBay with "Serial ATA-300 interface"
Q1) Is there only one type of SATA interace or many
Q2) Will this HDD plug straight in to my machine or do I require other connectors ?
Many thanks in advance
Ian

From Wikipedia:
"SATA 3.0 Gb/s
Soon after SATA's introduction, enhancements were made to the standard. A 3Gb/s signalling rate was added to the PHY layer, offering up to twice the data throughput. To ensure seamless backward compatibility between older SATA and the newer faster SATA/3Gbs devices, the latter devices are required to support the original 1.5Gb/s rate. In practice, some older SATA systems that do not support SATA speed negotiation require the peripheral drive's speed be manually hardlimited to 150 MB/s with the use of a jumper for a 300 MB/s drive."

I also need to move an older 20G hard drive over from my GX400 to a new GX 520. That computer no longer turns on after a lightning strike. I was going to set the old HD up as a second drive, but see that is not possible. So much for the portability I thought I had.
I need a strategy for recovering my pictures, files, etc. off the old drive, and liked the idea of space to back up to. Does anyone have a simple solution for me?
Thank you,
Rick
