Sonic DLA Removal

If you can help...

I am not a computer pro, so please be A,B,C, step by step...

I am trying to uninstall Sonic My DVD from my Dell Dementions 4600 (6 weeks old)...long story, wanted to try something else...tried to uninstall Sonic program...would not all the way uninstall, now want to put it back on because I like it better than the software I was trying to upgrade to...

So heres where I am.

I went to Add/uninstall programs...

Selected all programs that were "Sonic"...all uninstalled except "Sonic DLA"

When attempting to uninstall "Sonic DLA" I get the following..."There is a problem with the windows installer package. A program for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personel or package vendor...

when I click ok it says   "fatal error during installation."

Here's the deal...

1) Add/remove programs will not remove "Sonic DLA"

2) Have tried removing Sonic threw C/program files/Sonic...delating folder does not remove Sonic DLA from

    Add/Remove programs

3) Have searched file for Sonic and Sonic DLA and deleated all files...still does not remove Sonic DLA from

   add/remove programs

4) Have tried repair in Add/remove programs, get the same error message.

5) Have tried reinstalling Sonic 5.0 and 5.0 delux in to a folder called "Sonic2" and the program

will load and run, but when the burning or translating starts I get an error message that says that

Sonic has incountered an error and will not close...(will not complete burn...) (when I reload Sonic, I get a message that says that Sonic DLA is already loaded...No Kidding...that's the problem)

6) I have tried to reload windows XP, but program remains...

Help!!!

Peace

Hi Will,
More than likely why Sonic`s DLA would not remove is because it was runnning, the default install loads this program at Start up, you should disable it, then try the uninstall. Here is the steps:

Disable Sonic DLA.
1) Click the "Start" button
2) Double Click on the 'My Computer" icon
3) In the "My Computer" window, right click on the CD device then choose "Properties"
4) On the "CD Drive Properties" screen, click on the DLA tab, then remove the checkmark from "Enable DLA on your drives"
5) Click the OK button, then restart computer

Ok, yes sometimes when trying to remove a program, the uninstall messes up, usually reinstalling the program will over write the corrupt file(s) but you need to reinstall the same folder.

When you said reloaded Windows XP, did you mean the use of XP`s Restore Point or a re-install Windows XP? You can actually do a Repair install of XP.

Happy New Year

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

Jeff,

When I go to the E drive (the dvd R/RW) drive and select properties I have the following tabs...

1) (No Pconfig)  There is a check box that is checked and labeled enable

2) General...general stuff

3) Auto play...promt me is selected

4) Sharing

5) Hardware...with all the drives selected

6) Recording...with the enable recording on this drive box checked

No DLA tab...

Thanks again.

Willfulone: The lack of a DLA tab there indicates the program has been removed…

What makes you think it is still there?

If you do a Ctrl-Alt-Del does it show up as a running application?

Jim,

When I go to add/remove programs, it is still listed.  When I try to remove it it says what I listed above...

When I try and reload Sonic...It says that DLA is already installed...

Peace

You will have to go to Sonic's support board, there is nothing more we can offer for this.

I found an article on Sony's support site that states, under Windows 2000, there is a compatibility issue with the Intel chipset driver and DLA. You will need to change the Intel driver to the standard Windows driver to uninstall DLA. I know you have Windows XP, not 2000, but it may be worth a shot. Click here for the article and instructions.
