Hi Sujitkumar,

There is no problem installing older firmware. The drive will still work if the firmware is installed correctly. Did you experience a problem during the installation?

Yes, Firmware installed correctly. no issues experienced during the installation.

but i was wondering why i am not able to find same firmware on dell web site. i had similar issue with my older dell laptop D620 as well i found updated firmware and that fixed that problem.

The only firmware I see is what you found. But since changing the firmware did not help, I suspect a hardware failure, and you will need to replace the drive.

Good luck!

Sujitkumar, are you sure you have a TSST TS-U633J 9.5mm Tray SATA DVDRW and it was D800, A0?.

If so, why does Dell ships the U633J DVD-RW drive with D800 (A0?) firmware but only provide D600 firmware on their site??

In any case, as part of the flash process, the flash memory is read to ensure it has been written to correctly so if the flash was successful, as it seems, the drive should work but it doesn't. And no issues were identified during the flash process, other than the fact the OP was downgrading.

So it seems there is some compatibility issue between his hardware and the D600 firmware. And to assume that the hardware is faulty after a firmware flash when the issues may be fixed by flashing back to the D800 firmware the drive originally came with may be a little premature.

Can Dell make the D800, A0? firmware available (i only found D300, A02 & D600, A04)?

Why can't Dell provide older versions of the firmware via a link from the latest available version? It's a little cumbersome searching for older versions.

I did exactly this same thing. I incorrectly assumed that a firmware file on the downloads page for my Latitude e6420 would be an *upgrade* over the firmware on the device as it shipped. I only noticed that I was moving drom D800 to D600 as I was mistakenly pushing the button the firmware update software.

Dell - please make the D800 firmware that was originally on this device available. I shouldn't have to worry that I might be downgrading my machine by using the downloads you make available on your site.

I made the same error on a similar model laptop (e6320) with the same model drive. It was D800 and I downgraded the firmware by accident to D600. Why isn't the D800 still unavailable to download?
