Trouble with IOMEGA external dvd rw

Hi I have just swappoed over from a dell gx520 to a gx745 and i cannot get the external iomega dvd writer to install as a device

the drive worked fine on the gx520 and under device manager comes up as a HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCC4244

now when i plug the drive in on the gx745 is comes up as a usb device with a yellow excalmation mark against it and says it cannot find the driver for the device

i wanted to know if anyone had any ideas about this as i have tried a few things that i have found on the net and have had no good results

the machine is running xp pro with sp2

Hi Slayer,

Try Clearing the NVRAM:
go here
Scroll down to find your system and follow the Dell instructions.

Have you also tried reloading the IDE channel?
Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 20, article 3.

Best Regards

Hi

Thanks for that i will give it a try tomorrow

i have since tried pluggung the external drive into several other dell machines ( all with xp pro sp2 ) and not one of them except the original gx 520 will pick up the device as dvd rw all the rest pick it up as a usb device then they cannot find the driver for it

is it possible to get the driver for the device do you know as it lists the device as something very different on the gx520

Hi Slayer,

The drivers for optical drives are generic to Windows Operating system, so basically there are none to download. I wonder if the USB is turned on the BIOS or you may need to uninstall the USB hub from Device Manager and reboot the system?

Best Regards
