Unable to remove default CDROM Drive in Dimension 3000

Hey all.
I recently bought a new ND-3550A NEC DVD/CD Burner. In trying to replace the Dell default CDROM drive (HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8487B) with the NEC drive, the instruction given in the Dimension Owner's Manual to remove the "securing screw" proves impossible. Is it thusly impossible to remove the default CD drive in the Dell Dimension 3000?

Hi MrVanhes,

You did remove the front panel?
See this link:

Best Regards!

I apologize for not clarifying first; I removed the front panel, and have sat beside the instruction manual doing everything up until that point. I noticed that the securing screw on the default cd drive is golden, unlike the two given silver screws and two given silver alignment screws already in place on the CD drive.

Hi MrVanhes,

I am sorry, slow tonight, were you able to remove the drive?
I was able to check out a 3000 series, the only screw holding the drive is the securing one. I am wondering if the drive is catching on one of the sides of the drive cage?

Best Regards!

No, I was not able to remove the securing screw in the default drive, it feels like it's not meant to budge. Am I not supposed to remove the default drive?

Hi MrVanhes,

Yes, you can remove the default drive. The securing screw on the 3000 machine I saw was tight but not difficult to remove. You can lay the system on the side with the screw facing up, use a small drop of machine oil of some type, only a drop, do not spray, let it set for a minute or two, then try it again.

Best Regards
