Using a mobile rack to add a 2nd HD to dim 2400

Question

I'm planning to use a mobile rack to add a new 2nd HD into my empty 5.25" bay this week (Dim 2400). I was considering buying the add-on "piggy-back" HD bracket, until I found out that the mobile rack features a 40mm fan in the rear of the frame, so I opted for the rack over the bracket install method. I realize that my stock primary channel IDE cable may be too short, so I also purchased a 36" (round) IDE cable, so I can connect the original and the new HD onto the same cable.

Will there be any problem using an IDE cable this long? (i.e. signal/voltage loss?)

My new drive is a Seagate Barracuda 250GB IDE ultra ATA/100 7200rpm HD.

The rack is a Kingwin KF-21-IPF aluminum ATA/100/133 IDE mobile rack w/ 40mm rear fan.

The cable is a 36" long ATA/133 IDE 3-connector round cable.

Success!   Once I had the new hardware intstalled, I experienced some video issues (no video at all, to be exact), but physically removing and reinstalling the pci card seemed to resolve the problem.   After spending several hours formatting and then transferring files, I realized that I hadn't enabled the new drive in the BIOS. Enabled it, and now the drive is working much faster. I'm happy with the results.   I hope that this post helps someone else attempting a similar project.   Bodie.
