can't get second HDD to show up on computer
i added a second, data HD to my dimension 4700, plugged everything in, changed the bios setting to "on," and it still doesn't show up my computer, in windows explorer. am i missing a step somewhere? thanks, joe

You need to open the disc manager (control panel-admin tools- computer management - disc management) and partition and format the drive.

Once you set the BIOS for that port to "On', did you find that the serial number of the drive shows up in the hard drive listing for the BIOS? If you see it there, the drive is probably working. You will not see it in Windows until you use Disk Management to Initialize, Partition, and Format the drive. Only after that can Windows assign a drive letter to the new hard drive.

thanks for the response... i did just check the bios and it does show the serial number of the new drive. shouldn't it now just show up as new hardware? I still don't see it in windows explorer...
