inspiron 9400 no boot sector on disk
well i have a inspiron 9400.. hard drive installed was sayin no boot sector on disk.. replaced it.. updated bios.. still im getting bluescreen when loading vista.. or red screen when loadin xp...
nothing wrong with disk drives.. what should i do next
any ideas, advice, help will be well appretiated

Hi Space cadet,
Are you getting errors after installing the operating system? You said "when loading Vista". Loading can mean different things. It would be helpful if you provided the error.

erm when trying to install vista or xp.. im getting pretty much no where
ive tried updating the bios also
im getting different blue screen errors when installing vista
when installing xp, i get to the reboot stage then it says no boot sector on hardisk
have checked both hardisk by using caddy and they working fine

Obviously, if this is a new drive, there is no boot sector on the drive. So it has to be partitioned first. Either the Vista or XP disc can do that.

ok .. windows xp partions the drive... does the first part of loading/installing xp.. at this point windows says it needs to reboot
when it reboots its says.. no boot sector on hardisk
