installing firmware

Hi,
I'm trying to install the following from the drivers section of this site for my seagate hard drive:
D2D5DEM1.zip (32MB)
Recommended
6/22/2012
0005DEM1, A04
I went through the installation procedure but I noticed that the driver details did not change. Are the driver details different from firmware upgrades? How may I tell if the installation was successful? I actually tried to install it twice to because I wasn't really sure if it was successful.
Also this download is not available from the hard drive's manufacturer's official website and I noticed that when I went to install the prompt that I received said that the download was from an unverified publisher. Is this a legitimate download? The link I downloaded it from is:
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats?DriverId=C6RX3&FileId=2993241210&productCode=xps-L702x&urlProductCode=False
Thank you.

Hi Emirpk,

The driver is not the firmware. You can check the firmware version using the Intel RST.

The driver for the hard drive is a generic Microsoft driver that is installed by the operating system.  All systems use that driver dated 6/21/2006.

Hi osprey4,

Thank you for information. But is Intel rst something I should have installed already because I'm not able to find.

Also regarding the drivers for my seagate hard drive, is it normal that the driver's date is 2006 even though my dell xps l702 laptop is not even a year old?

Thank you. again.
