[m1330 - DVD] - Power Calibration Error - DVD should be replaced?
Hi,
I have a "MATSHITA DVD+-RW UJ-857G" installed in my XPS m1330. CDs, DVDs are read fine, but I have a problem to burn new CD/DVD. CD/DVD burner is making coasters failing to write CD's and DVD's, throwing a "Power Calibration Error".
+ I tried to use the best brand of CD's like Verbatim, Maxell etc - nothing changed
+ I tried to change burning speed - nothing changed
+ I tried to use other software - BurnAware, ImgBurn - nothing changed
The most strange thing is that during couple attempts I take some CDRW carrier and burn process had been successful. After that I burned couple CD's but one day the issue returned. Now I am not able to burn anything.
I'm wonder what is the root cause - is it means that my DVD is broken? I found some topic where for some people help cleaning their DVD - have somebody turtorial how to clean DVD? Is it solution?

The problem has been resolved :)!
I spent a lot of time to find a proper solution. I found rpc1.org forum which detects the problem and made own firmware upgrade - it works for me!
For all who has the same issue please use following ling and proceed accord with those instructions:

Hi c44rl,
The power calibration error is usually a problem with media, but can have other causes. What is your operating system? Have you checked for a firmware update?

Hi Osprey,
my OS is Win7 (32bit). I tried to find new updates for this hardware, but still Windows told me that I have the latest version. I will try to find new driverd and manualy install them, but still looking for new updates for my MATSHITA. Btw, I read couple comments that my DVD burner is a poor quality product :(
I will notify about my results.

The same Windows drivers are used for all optical drives, so that's not going to help.
Let me suggest you try the upper and lower filter trick following the instructions I've linked to below.
