SA, latest version not working
I downloaded the latest version of SA (Support Assist) (Version 2) a few days ago. When I try to open it, it tries to load but won't load properly (icon just continues to flash and flash), with a message that optimization tools are loading.
The same problem occurs when I try to open it as administrator. There is no option to repair this app when I go to Settings. The only 2 options are "modify" or "uninstall"
This new version of Support Assist is installed on both my XPS 8930.
Is any body else having a problem with this latest version? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I had the same issues and after reading all these message boards, I took the shortest route even though I had the most current version! UNINSTALL SupportAssist, then go to the Dell download site and got a fresh copy re-installed! I ran it as "administrator" and it worked fine. The original problem started after a WINDOWS Update. Could be related?

Yes I am experiencing the exact same problem. I have an Alienware M17xR3 with windows 7 professional. The program ran the first time correctly but was unable to download and install updates to hardware. Now it just hangs and does not respond.

@ThemrburnsThank you SO much! After uninstalling SupportAssist, deleting that folder in windows\temp did the trick.

Uninstalled anything with Support Assistant from the machine (3 applications) and re-installed the latest version resolved this in the end.

Same problem. After some reports of this tool corrupting windows I immediately shut it down when it auto starts. I am getting update notifications via email and pop-up notifications so I am not concerned about getting updates. This started after the 1803 update.

Its not Dell. The Windows 10 1803 update is **bleep**. I have over 100 documented issues with the 1803 update. The nastiest is corrupting of the icon cache resulting in the task bar being corrupted or blank and not able to access the start button to shut down. Have to go to task manager and shut down. files are locked by the kernel so I cant remove the ico files that are corrupted to force a refresh. If you are running pro windows 10 elect to defer updates as long as possible. Home users are **bleep** as usual. Thanks MS. Rush the update out and then have it mess-up computers. some anecdotal evidence is suggesting Windows 10 can become completely corrupted requiring a format and re-install from scratch (bare metal rebuild). I used Macrium Reflect to image my 1709 version of my machine and when 1803 gets updated I reload the 1709 image over top of it. I have to do this nearly every week. I also store my data out on a NAS and have no data stored on this machine locally.

Mine is fixed now. Thought I would post in case this could help others.
What I did:
I checked settings/apps and I saw that I had 2 versions of "Dell SupportAssist" installed. I uninstalled *both* versions and then got a new version here: http://www.dell.com/support/contents/ca/en/cabsdt1/article/product-support/self-support-knowledgebase/software-and-downloads/supportassist
I installed that and then noticed, I again had 2 versions. I checked and the smaller version was a much older version: 1.2.0.0 so I uninstalled that and left the new, bigger version 2.2.1.23 in place. My *guess* is that the 2 versions where conflicting with each other?

To get SupportAssist to work, I did the following: 1). Deleted the existing program using Control Panel / Programs & Features. 2). I then ran CCleaner (latest free version)to clean junk files. 3). Then went to (Windows) Control Panel /System / Security & Maintenance /Restore, and created a new restore point. 4). I then ran CCleaner Registry Cleanup. 5). Then I downloaded a new copy of SupportAssist from the Dell website. 6). After running the .exe file. SupportAssist downloaded, installed, and ran properly.
I've used CCleaner by Piriform for several years; no bugs, malware or viruses. There are Paid versions, but the free one has always worked fine for me. I imagine if you use Norton or a similar system maintenance program, you can do a registery cleanup & repair with that program as well.

Same same - the program loads but just hangs, indicating top left SupportAssist (Not Responding)

==========================================================================
In the folder
C:\Program Files\Dell\SupportAssistAgent\bin\Resources\
rename
New-Dell-Logo-White-Small.png
to
New-Dell-Logo-White.png
(just remove the -Small from the end of the file name)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
THIS WORKS!!
Found this solution here. Spread the word!

I reinstalled SupportAssist. It wouldn't launch for days.
