Support Assist / Diagnostic Issues

I have a friend with a 3 y.o. Inspiron laptop which has been having a whole bunch of misc. problems lately. I tried to run Support Assist, but keep getting the following error message:

"An unexpected error occurred while running this request. SupportAssist was unable to complete the requested task at this time. To retry, close the SupportAssist application and run the task again."

When I try running the diagnostics on the website's support page, it scans and and seems to keep freezing about 30% into it. I'm also lately having a problem getting the website to recognize the laptop using auto-detect.

Any suggestions or advice are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Solution

Once the uninstall is completed, restart the system and then reinstall the latest version of Dell SupportAssist from the dell site
