Basic question about meta device members

Hi,

Sorry if this is a basic question.

I have a device configured with the size of 122 gb and has 4 meta members.

What are these meta members? Are they physical disks or logical?

Also if I have number of configured sym devices in dmx is 1900 (we have 150 configured actual disks), are they all physical disks?

Thanks.

Not sure if you have open systems or CKD environment, but if open systems, you could start with a symdev list, then a symdev show on a specific device, then use the symdisk show to show the physical disk information.

Example:

xpro51-root> symdev list |head -20

Symmetrix ID: 000192601187

Meta members are logical devices. Each logical device could be on as few as 2 physical disks (mirrored) or 16 physical disks (14+2 RAID6)

If you have 150 physical disks, you have 150 physical disks which seem to have 1900 logical volumes defined on them.

Quincy, Thanks. Is there anyway to find what is the capacity of the actual disk?

Hate to state the obvious, but if you have physical access to the array you can always open the front door on one of the storage bays and have a look :-)
