How many hot spare drives are recommended for a VMAX array?
Hello All, is there is any white paper or primus that explains the best practices to calculate the required spares for a VMAX array's ?
Let's say I have an array with 40x146GB FC drives and 9x 1TB SATA , how hotspares will be configured ?

Hi,
There should be a minimum of 8 spare drives (HDD) for the entire system or two spare per 100 physical drives (or portion thereof) of each drive type. There are other recommendations for each loop and there are other rules for flash. There is a good whitepaper on this "Drive Sparing in EMC Symmetrix V-Max Systems" part number h6541.

That paper was for 5874+ not sure if there is an updated one following 5876 and 40K release. The rules should still stand true as there will be just more loops.
