What is meant by a hyper?
Can anyone please explain what is meant by hypers by symdisk list -disk_group 1 -v -sid 1234 command am getting the hyper details which is less than 2GB in size . And by symdev list -noport command we can see hypers of 8 GB. iam not clear about this process can any one please explain the process of device creatin in symmetrix.And is there any document related to this

A hyper is what is actually on a single disk drive in the Symemtrix. A symmetrix volume is what is host presentable. So it sounds as though you have Raid-5 3+1. Raid 5 3+1 takes a Symmetrix volume slices it 4 ways and put those four slices on four different physical drives but they are presented as a single symmetrix volume.
Hyper is on the physical disk
symmetrix volume or symmvol is what is able to be presented to a host.

A hyper or a slice is indeed 1 of many pieces a single disk is cut out of. We prefer to call host presentable LUNs a symdev or a META, which are multiple symdevs coupled to form a larger symdev, called a META.
