Setting up the iDRAC Web interface from shell

Hi,

for our VMs we run a DELL Poweredge. Before we set up

a webgui with a separate IP. The IP still exists. However,

the webinterface is no longer there. We have (root-)shell access.

Can you get started, what needs to done in order to restart

the webgui of the iDRAC (from shell)?

Thanks!

Best,

Thor

Thank you for the service tag.

I'm not aware of a command to reset/restart the service that controls the embedded web server on the iDRAC. You can reset/restart the iDRAC without restarting the server. Restarting the iDRAC will restart all of the services.

If you have OpenManage Server Administrator, DRAC Tools, or any other application that installs the RACADM toolset then you can issue RACADM commands from the host OS to reset the iDRAC. There is a RACADM CLI guide on the support page for the iDRAC.

www.dell.com/support/home/product-support/product/idrac7-8-lifecycle-controller-v2.50.50.50/

racadm racreset

There is a big difference between racreset and racresetcfg. If you add cfg to the end of the racreset it will reset the iDRAC to defaults. A racreset without cfg will only restart the iDRAC.

The iDRAC also supports IPMI, so if you have IPMI installed in the host OS you can issue a restart to the iDRAC using IPMI commands.

Thanks

Check out the RACADM command sslresetcfg.

I've used this in similar situations.

I assume you're referring to 'remote' RACADM, like on a separate management station on the network.  For that you need the DRAC tools package.  At any rate, this article ought to get you sorted with installation: http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/systems-management/w/wiki/3205.racadm-command-line-interface-for-drac

Hi all,

…thanks for the great help!
My situation now is that I don’t have a racadm-command at all.
The iDRAC seems to be still working, because up to now I get emails due to
the notifications I once installed.

How can I re-install the racadm command?

Thanks for your help!

Best,

Thor

If you can SSH to iDRAC then there is no need to have remote racadm software to be installed on separate machine. You can run racadm command from SSH session.

Hi,

the iDRAC is no longer pinging.
the command "racadm racreset“
delivers:
-sh: racadm: not found

The point is, it’s a DELL poweredge in a remote LAN.
This machine once had 2 IP’s:
a public one, which still can be accessed and an internal one (iDRAC-IP)
which corresponded to the iDRAC (iDRAC 8 by the way).
The latter is no longer pingable . Before I could visit the iDRAC- Webgui
"on that“ iDRAC-IP. Somebody must have deleted it.

So what is to be done ?
Making sure that the the iDRAC-IP is routed to the server ?
What must be installed on the machine and where to get it ?

Sorry for the tons of questions … but I need a solution here.

Hope you are willing to help me one more time.

THX!

Best,
Thor

Hi Shine,

longtime I haven't given feed back. In the meantime we had other priorities. I'm sorry for the big delay. But now I want/need to fix this prob...

The point is that I no longer have the racadm - command (please see also above).
In sum:
- can no longer ping the iDRAC IP
- cannot see the web gui of iDRAC
- I have Shell access

Now I want to make the webgui of iDRAC available again.
How can I find out, which linux is running on that server?
How can I revive the iDRAC webgui ?

Thanks for help!

Best,

Thor

Do you have ipmitool installed in the OS that is running on the server? If so, you can use "ipmitool mc reset cold" to reboot the iDRAC if it's still alive.
