To OMSA or to not OMSA

Should I load OMSA on my VM's? My VM's are Windows and Linux running on a Xenserver host running on a PowerEdge server. I am running OpenManager to monitor the servers both physical and virtual.

Generally OMSA does not offer a lot of extra value to virtual machines directly. However we would definitely recommend installing it in the host itself, and we have recent OMSA version support for several recent XenServer versions. What server model and XenServer version do you have? I can send you a link to the best matching OMSA version if you'd like.

I see installs for OMSA 6.5 on Xen 6.0.2. Should I us this install on Xen 6.5? And should I be using OMSA 6.5 or 7.1?

Hi there,

You can use OMSA 7.1 on the XenServer 6.0.x with this package: http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER00574061M/1/OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-LX-7.1.0-5304.XenServer60_A00.iso

OMSA 7.2 deprecates support for XenServer 6.0.x but you can use it if you switch to 6.1.x. The 9G PowerEdge systems (2950, 2900, etc) are still supported under OMSA 7.2.

Let us know how it goes.
