Dell Venue 8 Pro Touch Sensitivity

Hello,

I bought two Dell Venue 8 Pro two weeks ago. I notice that sometimes when I type on the screen, the touch input get triggered multiple times... After doing some more testing, I realized that the issue was because my finger was close to the screen, but not fully touch or rest on the screen. The device seems to pick up touch input even if a small tip of my finger touch the screen a few milliseconds, which is a bit annoying when typing or browsing. This ends up with characters get hit multiple times randomly, or the browser suddenly zooms out because the device though it was double-click. I never have any issue like this on my smartphones or the surface RT.

I believe this is a firmware issue or a touch sensitivity issue since it happens on both of my devices. I did multiple factory reset and change "Pen and Touch" setting in control panel. But the issue is still exist. Does this happen to anyone else?

Calibration doesn't affect much. Wwwhile it ddoeeesn't hurt to try, I'm pretty positive the problem is with the screen and windows 8. I noticed when I took out my screen protector the typing worked 98%. Only 1 or 2 double types in a day. Well my screen protector is on again. You can see the results now. It is terrible! windows auto correct features helps sometimes, bu usually is pretty bad. I almost had tonchange my log in cause of miss typing password. Does dell even monitor this discussions???? It is very clear that they have a problem, or windows has a problem. I'm snfew double types away from returninnng this's tablet anddd giving up ooh windows!

I hope I'm not reposting this, but I found that after installing the recent A08 BIOS, my repeat problems with the on screen keyboard were virtually gone.  Of course, I also had installed the touchscreen firmware update previously as well).

Has anyone tried increasing touch sensitivity? I just did, restarted dv8p and within this sentence I haven't got any double type. Open regedit to this location: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\TouchPrediction" You want to change the "Latency" & "SampleTime" values from "8" to "2". Honestly I have no idea what this does, but it didn't break anything so far. Hope there will be a fix to this bug soon. So far no double typing.

Sorry about the last post I meant to change the values from "8" to "10". We should be trying to decrease the sensitivity. That is the problem in the first place, too sensitive causing double typing. Again we can see the results in mmy post now.... spoke too soon LOL!

Here I am, just to complain about this extremely annoying issue.
I bought my DV8 Pro about two months ago, and unfortunately I had to return it due to sudden death of the touch screen. After this unlucky beginning, I got my device back with new components (including full touch input and lots of other replacements). Now the touch input is super sensitive, and even though I tried ALL the suggestions learned reading this thread I still experience issues, especially when scrolling vertically: if the tablet is put on a stand it's almost impossible to swipe without firing multiple touches. And, I repeat, I tried everything: updated the firmware, did a factory reset, calibrated the screen multiple times, run the dell diagnostic tool. What can I do now? To me this is a complete shame. The tablet is really good and lovely in all its features, but come on Dell, how can I work with it if it's systematically misinterpreting my gestures?! I am so frustrated.

Why would you buy this when you see all these horrible reviews about the issue. It is hardware and heat related, among other issues. The more you use it the warmer it gets and the more erratic the touch screen gets. And as you mention you can't use it on a stand as its ridiculously inaccurate on the sensitivity.  Its been one of the most expensive paperweights I've owned! Forget the money, its been the worst experince in a tech hardware, and the most anger inspiring as well.

Its like buying a pretty darn great car with permanent square wheels&tires.

Personally, I haven't had any of those issues and have enjoyed the tablet tremendously.  There are idiosyncrasies, but I've found no more than in any Windows PC.

You must be very fortunate to not have the touchscreen issues. The only solution that I have found is to touch the on-screen keyboard with the side of my finger rather than the pad of my finger, OR use a soft generic stylus (NOT the Dell stylus). Either of these solutions lessens the touchscreen issues. I agree though with the poster phil indeblanc. It truly is disgraceful that Dell seems unable to resolve such a basic issue for a touch tablet. Many, many others have reported this same issue,

You don't have issues with the sensitive touch screen? Or the stylus? do you have a protective screen? and what revision of the stylus do you have? I have the Jan.rev a01 and its terrible! Already used over 5 batteries in less then a couple of months. I use and need the stylus functionality regularly (that's why I bought w8 & stylus combo). Keeping this tablet has been costly. I have purchased a lot of batteries and even a few screen protectors (1 actually cost me $30! Now is been recycled somewhere is trashed) I'm moving on to Asus vivotab note 8 and wacom. Its nerve wrecking using a tablet with out a screen protector! and with so many issues. On top of that DELL doesn't seem interested in fixing this problem.

I don't mean to discount an issue that anyone is having, and feel badly for anyone facing those issues.  But my guess is, the vast majority of users simply do not have touchscreen issues of the type being reported here.  Otherwise, things in Dell's handling would be very different, in the face of massive returns which just don't seem to be happening.  I certainly encourage anyone having an issue to seek a warranty repair/replacement--such issues are not a norm, it again seems to me, and are not acceptable.

The patches and fixes to the problem were well over anyone with a 14day return. 2 months was more along the lines of the fixes to come, and even longer on the stylus revision.  DELL lost it for me, and many others.

I just swapped out 18 employee desktops, and laptops, without using Dell. It was hard not to go with Dell. The prices were very good, specially in their discount outlet...and we paid almost $1500 more, but in the end it is well worth it. For personal use, I will never get a Dell again, from my experience buying a $3500 XPS system they sold me with 8GB of ram to roll into Windows 64Bit(years back when 64bit was new), all along the Motherboard they used never supported it. They never came through. Not even to switch out the Foxcon Mobo model. They made it a big hassle to deal with, meaning they did all sorts of software tests, then hours of time on the phone with support, and explaining everything 20 times. As if my life revolves around Dell for me to explain why I deserve a fix!

This is how you lose customers and the grassroots energy that a company is good to go with. For anyone in IT and knows these and other issues avoids Dell. You keep cutting corners for the greedy execs behind the desk, and thats what happens. The top guy could give a hoot less. He is done and one foot out the door. A shame, a sham!  I spent hours on tech calls regarding the V8. The techs were very polite, very eager to help. they sent a replacement even(with bad pixels), and even though the problems were less at first, they creeped up.

If you don't have the issue, be happy! but take a look at how long THIS thread is, and then take a look at 30 other threads with the same issues! Then tell me its a small issue. "My backyard looks perfectly fine". If yo don't get that quote, get out the house and look at the world around you.

It certainly has had issues.  But it also certainly has tried to fix matters at least with the stylus, having gone through at least an original and 2 revisions to it . . . .  Now whether this has been suitably successful may be a different story.

I'm not discounting anyone's issue.  But issues are reported in forums; the vast number of people without issues simply don't.
