Dock external video troubleshooting and single thread
Trying to consolidate all of the dock video threads into a single one. This will help me to gather information on what is and is not working out there and get it to engineering to resolve. I'll edit this first post to keep everything updated in one place. This should make it much easier to find information going forward.
Steps to take before reporting an issue:
1) Check the revision on your dock. If you look at the bottom of the dock, you will see a variety of labels. The PPID label is on the right side of the group of labels and will include a revision number at the end. Verify that you have an A01 revision. If you have A00 and if video doesn't work after trying the remaining steps in this guide, contact support and have your A00 replaced with A01.
2) Be sure to update your device to the latest BIOS (currently A11 for the 713x and A07 for the 5130). For the 713x, select the appropriate version for your product.
3) Update to the latest video driver. This is currently 3496 for the 713x and 3366 for the 5130 (note that 5130 driver is bundled in the A06 chipset driver).
4) Connect your monitor(s) to the dock. The preferred method is to use straight DP to DP or HDMI to HDMI cables. Dongles will work, but note that DP dongles must be "active". DP++ dongles (non-active) will not work with this docking station. Passive HDMI dongles are OK. Use good quality cables and dongles. Monitors should be HDCP compliant.
5) Turn monitors on and set up external video either via the Intel graphics driver options or via WIndows Devices/Project option. The 5130 will support the LCD + one external display (two displays can mirror content if desired). The 713x will support the LCD + two external displays (each displaying unique content). The 713x will support daily chained DP 1.2 monitors. Dual external monitors can run at FHD (1920) and a single external monitor via DP can support 2560.
6) At this point, your external monitor should be working. If it is not, a couple of additional troubleshooting steps to take follow.
6.1) Remove and reinsert monitor cable to dock.
6.2) Make sure dock power is good (LED at front of dock should always be on when good power is present)
6.3) Make sure that monitor has correct input source selected and that cabling is routed to correct ports.
6.4) Undock and redock tablet to see if any change occurs.
6.5) For the 713x tablets, try rolling back to the A00 video driver 3316 to see if this makes any difference.
7) If external video is still not working as you expect it to, please post to this thread with the following information.
7.1) Confirmation that you have tried the above steps and that you do indeed have an A01 dock.
7.2) Brand and model number of your monitor(s).
7.3) Setup information (e.g. how is everything connected)
7.4) If using dongles, brand and model number of dongle if known
7.5) Specific problem(s) you are seeing.
Watch for updates to this thread as information develops. I'll be updating below tables fairly frequently - I need to dig up the test reports and add all of that information here soon.

1) I have A01 revision.
2) I have BIOS A11 on a 7130.
3) I have the 3496_A02 driver installed.
4) DP - VGA (Cables to Go #54129) won't work. HDMI - DVI (Startech #HDDVIMF8IN) will work.
5) 2 - Dell S2240M Monitors.
I've also tried an active DP - DVI but it doesn't work. The only number on that is 44WS130504606 but I can't find anything on Google about that. I will have to check with our ordering person to see if I can get more information.
We bought 3 of these and all of them have the same issue.

Our setup in company
- Dock A01 revision.
- BIOS A11 on a 7130
- Driver 3496_A02
- DP - DP Dell U2412m doesn't work
- HDMI - DVI Dell U2412m works fine
We also try active adapters but that doesn't work too. With the DP to DP cable the U2412m is recognized by Windows 8.1 64bit with other cables nothing.
Already talk to the Dell Gold Support without any solution they told me it was a problem with the dockingstation it has DP version 1.0 and our monitors DP 1.2 that doesn't work. I don't want to belief this answer. Sometimes when I installed another video driver the 3 Display switches on for a few seconds but after installation still the same problem. Hope the new driver brings the solution for us.

Just to update my situation. We purchased 1 of the recommended adapters:
Cable Matters Gold Plated Active DisplayPort to DVI Male to Female Adapter (tested on 7130)
And the DisplayPort side works now as well.

Sorry for the lack of updates - have been travelling for work and time has been even more limited than normal. The workshop completed last month and Dell and our partners have been working on a new video driver. We originally had hoped to have this out by now, but a few additional issues were found and are being fixed. Current ETA for the driver is within the next ~10 days. If the driver is delivered on this date, it will be validated (~week or so, maybe a bit longer in this case) and then posted to support.dell.com. Goal here is to get all of these issues resolved, so while I realize you guys are frustrated, the engineers are working to resolve rather than rush. I'll keep you posted as I get the beta. I now have several of the monitors that don't work.

I have been able to get the P2210f working fine with the supplied DP to DP cable that came with the monitor. I used a bluerigger HDMI to DVI adapter for the other port and using the latest (A11) BIOS and video drivers (A02) with an A01 dock. I used to have to do a little jig to try to get them to work if the tablet rebooted, but since I did those updates everyting is working 100% of the time.

I was able to get multiple monitors working after driver updates mentioned in this post. however I still have a flickering when using VGA to display port. I am using DVI to HDMI via an adapter and it works very well. My monitors are both HP LA1951g
- Dock A01 revision.
- BIOS A11 on a 7130
- Driver 3496_A02
Thanks

Hi Brian,
As this is finally headed towards Dell Engineering in a well defined manner, I just wanted to post a few big picture comments and observations on this topic based our experiences.
Our setup is as follows:
- Venue 11 7130 Pros with A01 DS, A11 BIOS, and 3496 (A01) video driver
What I want to talk about is what works consistently vs what doesn't and therefore elevate this conversation stream to focus on what MUST be the root cause heart of the issue here that Dell Engineering needs to address:
- When we connect the Venue 11 7130 Pro tablet's Micro HDMI port to virtually ANY of the problematical monitors listed in any of the various blog posts to date with an appropriate cable or cable + active adapter, it works. Similarly, no one has reported any issues outputing from their tablet to TV's of all sizes at home, etc.. This means that the fundamental issue is not with the tablet, or even its video drivers.
- To further bolster this conclusion, we tested the tablet hooked up to problematical monitors directly through a standard DEll USB 3.0 port expansion hubs. Both those expansion hubs with 2 traditional DVI video out ports and newer models with DP and HDMI video output port options. These hubs are using Display Link technology and drivers under the hood for video data handling. No problems!
- We also tested against the very similar, but single HDMI video output port, propriety I\O port DEll DS that shipped with the Lat 10's. An implementation that never had any of these issues. As long as you have a LAt 10 on that DS your OK, as soon as you have a Venue 11 configured to output at FHD resolutions, it usually goes south.
- To me, this testing clearly proves two things.1) its the move to FHD and support for the larger data streams those resolutions require that is part of the root cause of the problem. Increased power needs to drive that might also be in play. 2) That the root cause of all these issues is the DEll A00 + A01 DS's proprietary interface port where the tablet joins the DS and starts routing its video I\O through that port once docked. That's the difference between the USB 3.0 hub test and the Venue 11 DS tests. Clearly the drivers and technical specifications behind the new DS for FHD video data I\O routing in both directions are not solid. They were initially with the Lat 10 at 1366 x 768 and lower resolutions.
Please have the Dell Engineers focus on these facts.

I didn't hear anything on this last week so I thought I'd bump it again.
Any update when we might see the updated driver?

Driver is in test now. Assuming all goes well, it should be available relatively soon. Once I have a target date for web post, I'll share here.

Dell Venue 7139
BIOS A11
DOCK: K0A1
Purchased: May 2014
Driver: A02 10.18.10.3496
Cable: Dell DP to DP that came with one of our monitors.
Monitors Tried: Dell P2414Hb & Dell 2009Wt
We are having significant issues getting the DP to work on the Dock. We have a variety of Dell monitors.
Sometimes, if we dock and re-dock we can get the dock to detect the monitor. When it is detected, we can only get it to mirror the display on the Venue. If we set it to extend - we get a black screen on both the Venue and the monitor.
The Departments I support at my University were planning on investing heavily in the Venues to replace our laptops. But this display issue is an absolute deal breaker for us. The departments I support will not buy a single additional Venue until this issue is resolved. We may even consider Microsoft Surface Pro 3s
