Macrium Reflect backup error
I realize this is not the Macrium support forum.
I have successfully backed up and restored my DVP8 using MR many times.
I have a couple of times received an error:
"error reading volume bitmap error code 1"
The error instructs me to run chkdsk on c:.
I do that and then try to do the backup again, but I get the same error code.
MR support says:
"This error can mean that other software on your PC is stopping Macrium Reflect from reading your disk. Please can you temporarily disable your anti-virus software and try your backup again. "
I don't have any other software running when I run MR, as far as I know.
Is there something I can check to confirm this?
I don't remember what changed the last time I got this error, because I was able later to run a backup.
TIA

Thanks Max.
I had already read both of the threads you linked to above.
The Macrium didn't help and the DVP8 link is for a *factory* backup which is different than what I am doing.
It is also extremely complicated (the method he is describing).

Perhaps this thread can help with your intermittent problem:

If I ever use an imaging process I think I'll start here:
http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/threads/step-by-step-guide-to-creating-a-factory-backup-image-for-the-dell-venue-8-pro.60222/
You could disable Windows Defender service if the first thread doesn't help you.

Thanks Max, I found Windows Defender and disabled Real-time protection.
Then I re-booted to make sure it was locked in.
Then I tried to make another backup image but once again I got the same error message. :(
The message tells me to run chkdsk on c: with /f.
I do that but my c: drive is clean. No errors show up at all.
Do you know of any other programs that might be running in the background besides Windows Defender?
It's quite frustrating.

Too turn off the Windows Defennder, open the WD program by using Search\"Windows..., and in Settings/Real-time Protection uncheck the 'radio button'.Remember to check it again.

Actually, from some things i've rad tonight, the problemm may be linked to the free version; that said:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/mobile-devices/f/3824/t/19581946
can't recall the activation/disable procedure at the moment and i'm getting tired.
you could also try a clean boot and run the following:
sfc /scannow but i would be surprised if they help.

My suspicion is that it is linked to the free version.
As I mentioned a couple of posts ago, I was able to make another backup by going back to one of my good restores and making a very simple change.
I hadn't tried to make any other backup until this evening.
I really didn't change much at all. Just added the touchmousepad, that's all.
Sure enough, when I tried to make a backup with Macrium it failed with the same error message. :(
I just hope that my restores (which have worked up until now) won't fail me down the road.
But it's frustrating that I can't make a new backup when I want to.

what i would try is: uninstall macrium and reboot/then delete the program in the registry./then install the latest version. do so only if you know how to use the regedit command and/or know how to properly back up the registry and restore it if necessary (Advanced). This is a long shot and probably not worth trying unless you're familiar with the process.
