i upgraded my02dell lastnight i hAVE TO say its amazing now love it the keyboard updates are perfect i can now type a sms without having to delete half of it and re type it the swype system is fantastic specially for the lazy texter everything works grt only gripe i have was the problem with 3G connection but after looking at some posts on here i got it sorted easy now everything is grt i love the phone now as before i had a few dislikes now its perfect
hi amy sorry but im really confused with this. i got this notification on my streak to go to the android 2.2 update but there is no link below the updater it only shows backup part ive done the backup and still nothing idont know what to do with this.. ive also went to "http://cot.ag/fKoFRX" which is a download link i downloaded it and went to put it on my dell streak but still idont even know how to access it what do i do?
Re problems running the OTA update, I couldn't get it to work using a third party browser (Opera Mini), and so, rather than change the default browser back to the Android native offering, I completely uninstalled Opera, and reinstalled it after the update.
I had also had a general problem getting any updates to Apps to work via Market under Android 1.6, until I went into Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/Market, and selected Uninstall updates.
This worked for me, but I suggest you just disable/uninstall any third party browser, first, and see if that works for you.
You might want to wait for corroboration from elsewhere, before you uninstall updates to Market under Android 1.6.
Rename the file to update.pkg and put in the root of the micro sd card. power down your device. once off, press the volume up and down button at the same time while pressing the power button. you will get a mune that comes up select #2 with your volum up and use the camera button to select. you will go through some screens just follow the prompts and it will update. Just make sure you have all of you data backed up as the information on the phone will probably be lost.
I can understand how frustrating this is. i bought my streak here in the states and have been somewhat dissappointed with the unit and the customer service. I read these things every day and will help out where I can. I am actually in the process of switching over to a Motoraola Droid X because of all of this.
Have been working with update for couple of weeks now. Lots of issues in getting things running but two key and enduring issues that mean the Streak does not work as advertised: sync with outlook and video calling. Neither work, sync programme syncs contacts only well took 3 hours but it did do it, but no calendar, tasks etc. So Dell Streak does not sync with Outlook this is not acceptable for those that bought Streak out because of this facility, my first XDA of over 10 years ago did this easily. Now have discovered that video calls no longer work as front camera can not be accessed in Tango or Fringo, so hey does not do what it says on box. These issues really need an immediate solution otherwise could be issue for advertising standards. Sx
"i have the dellstreak and i have just upgraded the phone to android 2.2 its grt except for one thing the3G connection to the internet dont work anyone elsehave this problem if so can u advise me as to how to solve it the setting are correctinmy network its setto be connected to the 02 3g network of which ihave unlimited surfing it just wont connect thank"
Yes, I lost my data connection (both 3G and GPRS/EDGE) when I upgraded to 2.2, but it "magically" came back about a week later.
I'm not sure if it's something that O2 are doing, or if it's the Streak, but it was frustrating for that week not being able to browse/email without wifi!!!
I have a Streak that has been updated to 2.1 o2 from att 1.6. I get a message saying an update ota is available and the link takes me to the backup download software , continues to do the back up and then does no more ? do I have to do it manually? Is there a How To out there for that?
I'm on this forum seeking help with my partner's 'phone. My own 'phone is an HTC Desire HD, also an Android 'phone running 2.2. Before our current phones we both had G1s so have been using Android since inception (almost) so we have some idea of how the os works.
I helped her upgrade to the new release a week ago. Same problem as other users, all contacts lost, which I was able to resolve fairly easily by synching with her Google Mail account (why anyone would use Android and not use Google mail is beyond me. Its kind of the point, really).
Our other problem is not so easily resolved, calls made to O2 and Dell with no avail (in my experience t.mobile's customer service is hugely better than O2's) her 'phone will not connect to mobile internet; 3G, GPRS, etc. Settings provided by O2 do not resolve the problem. Dell say its an O2 issue. I've read through this thread and it seems that others have resolved this problem but I haven't fully understood the resolution. Would it be possible for someone to give a point-by-point guide to the steps they took to fix this? I'd be very grateful.
@ techthug954 THe manual update would work the same IFand I repeat if this .pkg file was compatible with the AT & T locked phone..it is not. I have not seen anything come accross that is a sipmle solution. I'm not saying there are not ways to get the ANdroid 2.2 on the unit but I dont see the need to spend that much time on it when I already have a droid X on order. If you want to have a go, MoDaCo.com has a workaround. I cant remember the thread that I saw it in but its on here on this thread or one of the others that are dealing with the Streak. Looks towards the end of the threads.
I'm slowly getting past all my issues with the streak..... had to ditch my original purchase and buy a Sim Free one from Tescos as that hat 2.1.
I'm now running 2.2 and getting round some of the awkward issues by downloading apps.
I can conferm that the streak will eventually work reasonably well (im comparing to my old iphone 3GS) But you will not be able to sync any of the basic business functions that you may expect.
The Dell Mobile sync software for the streak which you haveto download separately gets past most issues of the 2.2 upgrade, it will sync video and audio content and hidden away in there is functionality that will sync contacts.... I couldnt see it at first so please look again...might not show unless the software has recognised your phone.
I got round the nasty fiddly keyguard pincode log on by using the 'pattern' log on. Much easier to do without errors and strangely is easy to unlock both in landscape or phone orientation.
Many thanks
Mike
There are only a couple of teeny niggles left;
Does anyone know of a notification app that will give me an on screen preview on pop3 mail... Theres loads of apps for Gmail but I'm stuck using Pop 3 as I get mail direct from my host server.
A couple of times the streak has failed to answer calls.... the slidey 'Answer Call' graphic just refuses to slide all the way.
Similarly the keyguard slide graphic used to do the same (got round that using 'pattern' log on)
On a long call the streak goes to sleep.... very strange as the call continues but the phone has to be completely restarted from the keypad log in and then you have to select phone, return to call and then hang.
Anybody else finding this or have i got a duff one?
Only asking as my 28 day return Tesco return policy will soon run out !!!!!

@ GUNNY74 Thanks man I'll just ride it out until the official update comes my way. After being with Apple the past 3 years I've learned to be patient.
