Same problem with Venue 7. Apparently Dell locked out the external memory from sending anything to it! Internal memory fills up with Games, etc and your are not allowed to put the "Games" into external memory as you are on android phones. Dell blames it on the Android version but my phone has the same version OS and does not have this "defect"! Unfortunately, Dell will not respond reference this 'DEFECT" and/or possible solution! There are proposed hacks out there to modify the OS!
Is it me or is it really next to impossible to engage in any dialog with anybody about what I'm dealing with? Do I have to have my device rooted in order to put my media files (music and videos) onto my sd card? Is this some kind of "improvement" that Android or Dell made to my previously functional tablet? Can I get anybody to actually discuss this with me until a solution is reached? Do I have to find something other than a Dell to do what I want to do with my tablet?
I was a Dell Support Tech for 16 years and have become somewhat disheartened by Dells refusal to address this limitation. Their Hardware is still comparatively better built then most other companies and service support also on a whole. Situations like this just add frustration to solid Dell customers and cause them to look elsewhere for equipment!
Yeah, I know, I love my Venue 8, and wish I could get it to do what I needed a tablet for. Unless I can root it (and void the warranty, of course), I am going to have to find some other way to get things done, a way that, unfortunately, will require me to find another tablet.
Is there anybody on here? I came here to find out how to fix it, not to whine about things that can't be fixed. Is this the best I can expect from Dell?
Is there an issue with that particular card maybe or how it's formatted? Have you tried another?
I have a 64gb samsung card in mine and never seem to have any issues although most of my transfers to the card are done via wireless which is pretty quick and painless. However, I have also attached the tablet directly to pc and copied stuff over to the card.
Be aware of the fat32 and 4gb max file size issue though.

So this is a Dell thing, as I suspected? Only they won't accept any accountability for it? So how do I find out more about the proposed hacks?

Even if my device is not rooted? I'll look, but it isn't rooted and I'm not sure if it will be.

Why are they doing this, anyway?
