This issue may occur if specific Windows Updates are not installed in the proper order. Microsoft has made a change to prevent further customers from getting into this state. Customers must now have a pre-requisite update (KB 2883200) installed before being offered these updates.
To restore wireless connectivity:
1. Uninstall all of the following updates: · KB 2887595 – Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update rollup: November 2013 · KB 2903939 – Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update rollup: December 2013
To uninstall an update, go to the Control Panel and select Programs. Then, under Programs and Features, select View installed updates. Select the updates listed above and click Uninstall. If you’re prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
2. Install the updates listed below. When you run Windows Update, the updates will now automatically be installed in the proper order. You must restart the computer after you apply each update. · Install KB 2883200. · Install KB 2887595 and KB 2903939
Oh, this is unrelated to that earlier windows update order issue. When I bought the v8p late last year, I had already read the threads about the update order issue and updated accordingly. The reason jare may have seen an improvement is that he generally updated his system. From his earlier log, Firmware Version: 0x31C8755A; my version, like Userp, is the newer Firmware Version: 0x31C87571. The latest version of the drivers, etc. is certainly more stable than before, but it eventually fails in the same way and is unrelated to connected standby/resume events. It last failed for me on January 14th, so almost a week ago. If you read the other large wifi thread, you'll find that even people who sent their devices in to be serviced and updated reported that, upon arrival, it seemed fixed for a while before failing again. Please do not mark this as resolved, as it is a completely different issue. Thank you again for your time!
My WiFi crashed twice today and the WLAN-Autoconfig Analytic and Debug logs didn't show any errors. I have all of the latest drivers and windows updates.

Just want to chip in as another DV8P user with all the latest updates who is having the same issue. Wifi drops while browsing, dropping Bluetooth as well. Wifi can't be reenabled in Charms and usually the only solution is to reboot.
The WiFi will often drop during streaming (whatching YouTube videos, Watching Twitch.tv streams or streaming a movie from my media server).
Need to reboot to fix the issue.

Venue 8 Pro 32GB

Wifi Driver: 3.7.2.59, A04 (lastest)
issue seems to occur less frequently since I started using the 5ghz band exclusively. Prior to that I could have the issue multiple times when streaming a movie. Nowm I have the issue every now and then
The issue we have is that not everyone who has a Venue 8 is reporting or experiencing the issue. I can say that I streamed over an hour of YouTube on a Venue 8 with no problems at all. Wireless issues, especially intermittent ones can be some of the most complex issues to root cause.
nobody31 - How easy is for you to reproduce the issue?
I'm guessing that most people who have wifi issues with the v8p today, as opposed to near release when the windows update order issue existed, have this driver/firmware issue as the underlying cause. Is testing being done on the "Venue 8 Pro" 64GB with Windows 8.1 and all updates, as opposed to the 'Venue 8" Android model? As for repro, it's fairly easy with the Hyper youtube player app, though the failure can occur as quickly as 5min or as long as half a day. As mentioned earlier in the thread, after adjusting some router settings months ago, the issue became less frequent, but it still happens.
Network setup:
802.11n-only mode, 2.4Ghz only (no 5Ghz), WPA2-only mode, AES only
Wifi Channel Fixed (not Auto): 1, Channel Width Fixed: 20hz, Disable Short GI
With Auto channel id, Auto channel width (20/40hz), and Short GI (guard interval) enabled, the failure occurs more frequently. Please try to test with multiple devices active on the router concurrently, simulating a common home network. In addition, try both while charging (or plugged in at 100%) and while not. Thank you for the reply!
Yes, it happens with modern IE, as well as other apps. Hyper just happens to be the way I tend to stress the wifi most in common use. I've used it with 2 home routers from different manufacturers (older one was 802.11b/g with no N), same result. Haven't used it on a network outside home, so it hasn't needed to roam.
I also get the issue when using the MetroTube application, modern IE and the Windows Video modern app. The issue seems to happen when Stream high definition content.
Do you know if there is a specific video where the connection will normally drop while playing? Is there a typical amount of time the video is played where the connection will drop? Just trying to find a scenario where the issue can be reproduced and analysed.
Hello Steve. What I assume is anything that put sustained load on the wireless network will eventually cause the issue. I don't think it's only video streaming related. It just happen that on small tablets like these video streaming is about the only common user workload that will stress the network for a while.
Sometimes I can get the wifi drop 2 or 3 times within an hour and sometimes I can go a couple of days without a drop.
I'll take some time to work on a repro of the issue over the weekend and hopefully come up with a method that repro the issue more consistently and that I can share with you.

If the issue everyone has been having is indeed related to Windows updates, here is the Microsoft posting on how to resolve:

I've been having the usual logged wifi driver/firmware failures, as well. I hope they can repro and fix this sooner rather than later.

As a workaround, try the following. Open an elevated command prompt (i.e. as administrator) and run these two commands.
netsh interface set interface "Wi-Fi" admin=disable
netsh interface set interface "Wi-Fi" admin=enable
I put this in a batch file on the desktop so I can easily right click and select "Run as administrator".
This does not always work, but often it does and saves me from an otherwise necessary reboot.

I haven't tested the Android version. Haven't used the Hyper youtube player app either. Just tested network connectivity via web browser.
Have you seen the issue using a browser or other apps? Has it occurred on another network?
