XPS 10 Charging Indicators

ok, so my XPS 10 powers up and works as it should while plugged in with the supplied ac adapter, unplug adapter and the tablet goes dead without powering down, when I go do device manager and delete the charger and the battery, no change. at the desktop, the power icon shows "plugged in, not charging".   tried a micro usb charger from my cell ph and it shows charging, small white led is on. when I power tablet off, and then plug in ac adapter, the small white led comes on briefly, then goes out. 

 So my troubleshooting indicates that the ac adapter is ok, as it powers up and runs as it should while plugged in, nothing while depending on battery, and while micro usb charger is plugged in, I have a charging active indicator "on" on the front, so I'm left with a problem with my 40 pin connector correct? or am I missing something?

currently have the micro usb charger plugged in to see how far a charge I can get in the battery, to rule out the battery...
