Unity 4.2.3 and DR Testing without production outage
Hi,
We are looking to perform a DR test but we can not affect production workload. Our Unity is using asynchronous replication.
From you I've read on the Unity Configuring Replication (H14974) and UNITY: REPLICATION TECHNOLOGIES documents they only cover the failover and failback (planned or not planned) but in both cases causing a production outage since the VMWare datastores and NAS file System go to Read Only Mode
I know Unity OE 4.3 include a New Proxy NAS but this is Read Only so not possible to write any data on the DR side.
Any found any workaround to do a DR isolated test ?
Thanks

Have you tried the procedure in this KB (assuming you're using NFS since you're talking about VMware datastores)?

Thanks Chris,
We are using VMWare (block) LUN/VMFS datastore (no NFS). I learned, we can
take a snapshot of the destination volume or clone it. Then mounted on the
ESX and that worked ok for me.
The issue remains with SMB/CIFS file systems since there is not option to
clone or take snapshots on the replicated file system.
Re NAS proxy on 4.3 allows read only access so not sure if you can read and
clone it. We have wait till we can upgrade to test.
Do you know if Recovery Point (for Unity) allows to test DR without
production outage ?
Thanks

RecoverPoint wont work for Unity NAS file systems
what you currently do for writeable NAS DR testing is using NFS
a writeable DR test for CIFS is planned for a future version - ask your local contact about roadmap info
