Help with Fast VP on VMAX
I have got a Vmax 20K which has 3 tiers
EFD FC and Sata
I want to setup FAST VP to use all 3 tiers
the initial set up was that the array was setup with TDEV on both the sata and FC pools and none on the EFC disk
It only had data devices on the EFD pool
Do I have to create tdevs on the EFD pool in order to also use the EFD pool ?

Nope. You only need to have the pool configured (that has some capacity assigned to it) in the tiers/policies and if warranted FAST VP will promote some data to it. There is no requirement to have devices initially bound to a pool to enable it for use in FAST VP.

Is the EFD pool a thin pool? Is so, then no. You can have pool with no data in it and it will work with FASTVP.

Hi DB,
even if you have created TDEVs and you have 3 Tiers and FAST VP Policy keep in mind that all the devices must be bound to FC Pool and then the FAST VP Policy in regards with the workload, will take care to do the promotion/demotion of the extends.
So bound the devices to the FC pool and leave the FASt VP to do the job

Hi,
you dont need to create and Tdev in the EFD Pool. you only need to modify your current policy to use the EFD pool.
symfast -sid 1234 -fp_name -modify -tier_name -max_sg_percent
