File system size that is reported to clients

VNX7500/7.0.50-2

On file systems created where Storage capacity is configured for 24GB and the Maximum capacity is 200GB, the maximum capacity is reported to the client accessing the share.

Is this typical?

I'm wondering why it does not report the 24GB to the client, or otherwise what the significance of the storage capacity value is in a filesystem?

Thanks

Yes that’s by design since you configured it with the VP flag

That’s the same as in a SAN environment – you show the client how much space he could use.

If you want it differently you can just create a fs with auto-extension but without the virtually provisioned attribute

Check the PDF manuals – they should explain in more details
