how to use snapshot on san host for NX4

Hi all,

we have EMC NX4 (AX4-5F8) box connected to 2 solaris host through san switch. Can we use the default snapshot product to take the backup from backup host.

For testing purpose we have created the snapshot and presented to the backup host. However on solaris we are not able to access the snapshot.it is visible as device but not able to import the filesystem (e.g zpool import).

Just wanted to know anyone has experineced on these default snapshots and how to use it.

We don't have any additional licence or software like snapview and clones.

Thnx to all in advance.

From Navisphere GUI

1) Configured the reserved lun pool.

2)  started snapview session on source lun

3) created snapshot

4) presented snapshot to backup host

5 ) activated the snapshot

after that the snapshot lun is visible on OS side....but not able to use it..

Thnanx for responce.

I don't have the snapview licence.

Only the snapshot product is available which is the default we had got from the box.

I have not created the snapshot for clerra filesystem.

I have presented the lun to solaris host through SAN switch (fibre cables)

For this lun i have created the snapshot and presented to backup host.

but on backup host i am unable to import the filesystem on this lun or i am unable to view data on this lun.

if you are trying to create a snapshot of your LUN , then you will need to purchase snapview license. It sounds like you created a snapshot of Celerra file system ?

SnapshotManagement is equivalent of snapview snapshot functionality, so looks like you are good from that perspective. On Solaris box if you run "cfgadm -al | grep dsk" , do you see the disk ? What happens when you run "zpool status"

sounds to me like you have a snapview license. Is there a software tab on AX4 where you can list all the software installed on this array.

what if you reverse these two steps

5 ) activated the snapshot
