VPLEX Metro Cross-Connect Host Connectivity and Test Plan

Hi,

Does anybody have a detailed plan on how to setup VPLEX Metro Cross-Connect Host connectivity?

Also, do you have any Test Plan particular to VPLEX Metro Cross-Connect Host connectivity.

We have a VPLEX Metro and customer wants the hosts from cluster-1 to access the vplex cluster-2 once the vplex cluster-1 was down.

Hi ,

The below link will have details on VPlex metro "cross-connect"

https://support.emc.com/docu58229__VPLEX_Host_Multipathing_Implementation_Planning_and_Best_Practices.pdf?language=en_US

The test for "cross-connect" will be the same as metro testing which you can find in the Vplex fault injection test and acceptance document.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Sathya

Thanks Sathyaprakash. It was a very helpful link.

By the way, any advantage and disadvantage of using Cross Connect Cluster?

Is there a possibility of having read/writes crossing across sites? Any performance impact?

The primary benefit of cross connect is that it can provide higher availability depending on your host configuration. In order to ensure the best possible performance, use PowerPath. NMP or MPIO round robin would send IO on remote paths which would result in significant performance issues. If NMP or MPIO must be used, the recommendation would be to use fixed path to the local VPLEX. PowerPath will identify local paths based on their response times and balance IO across only the local paths.

Ben
