VPLEX Virtual Appliance

Hey

I hope someone can help.

I have been asked to create a windows cluster on virtual machines with shared disks and I want to take advantage of the EMC VNX5200 we have.

Originally my thought was to present a RDM to each VM and configure that way.

It seems however that RDM is not a supported option with the vplex virtual appliance we are using.

I then considered creating a new LUN and formatting as NTFS and presenting over iSCSI but this causes me an issue with replication between the 5200's onsite as it is not an VMFS volume.

Does anyone have any ideas of how I can get this setup where by I have a shared disk between the 2 VM servers which will replicate to the secondary SAN?

Thanks

If I understood correctly, question is on Lun sharing between two different hosts using Vplex.

1. Zone two servers with Vplex Front end directors

2. Carve LUN / LUNs on VNX Array and present to vplex array (Assuming Vplex - > VNX Connectivity is present)

3. Discover and claim new LUN on Vplex array.

4. Register Host initiators and create storage views for each host.

5. Create VV, Extent / device (As per your org standards) and add the same LUN in both storage view.

I hope this answers your question.
