An error occurred while installing McAfee VirusScan

I recently purchased a new Inspiron 9300 laptop with a 2 year subscription to McAfee support that came installed when the system was delivered.  When the VirusScan software tries to do an update of the latest version, I get the error: 'An error occurred while installing McAfee VirusScan' ... The dialog suggests: 'We recommend that you retry the installation:' with addtional instructions to Save, Restart and Reinstall McAfee VirusScan.  I did this and still get the same error.
