CPU usage problem with Trend Micro PC-cillan update pattern 594

"a software problem affected some 4,500 computers mainly in Japan but also in the United States and Australia over the weekend, severely slowing their operating systems and rendering them inaccessible in some cases....
The problem... was caused by a lack of proper testing of an update of its Virus Buster [PC-Cillin] software"

The following web page descriptions, at a glance, all seem rather similar.  But, as each one has a slightly different header, I've decided to include them all.
( users of PC-cillin 2002 on Windows ME or  Windows XP SP2 are also affected, but i'm not sure which of these pages apply)

for PC-Cillin internet security 2005 running windows xp sp2:

FYI, had this happen to both of our Precision Workstations in our office; thought the obvious conflict was with some Office XP updates that had been made earlier in the day. Used the msconfig utility to disable PC-cillan on startup in order to remove the program all together on both machines Sunday evening (for some reason, was not able to uninstall in safe mode).

Saw this today: http://www.trendmicro.com/en/support/pattern594/overview.htm . Have no idea if anyone else was affected domestically, but talk about panic attacks!!

Will be doing the re-install today -- crossing fingers that this will not happen again.
